coincidence? i think not.

there are only a few times in a person’s life where the cosmic forces bring together a harmony unparalleled to anything we have come to know or understand in our tiny existence. I beared witness to such a force this afternoon, as i sat glumly in my room after a mediocre day of classes. my good friend vince g. (VINCE #1) called to check in after a year of playing phone tag. and what i thought to last in a 15 minute ’whats going on in your side of the world’ phone call beautifully transformed into a heart to heart among friends, the vince i completely remember when i first met him years ago. despite my slight agitation at my current situation in the middle of podunk county, away from friends or civilization for that matter, i was able to capture a bit of normalcy with an old friend that possessed a genuineness that i’ve always admired. we talked about our plans, our 2008′s and exchanged exciting tales of romance while trading advice from the viewpoint of a guy/lady. it was a conversation that helped take my spirits from blue to lovely, and i quietly thanked the universe for such a more-than-pleasant connection with an old friend.

now not even a moment later from saying au revoir to VINCE #1 did my screen flash with a response from my other good friend vince s. (VINCE #2). he said ’yo, what up j?’ i, still lingering in my own little pity party, responded, ’i think im depressed’. and before you can say ‘pop open the cabarnet, we’re drinking at noon’ i heard my phone begin to ring. it was vince. calling to see why i was so blue. i told him of my struggles with the bleak loneliness one tends to encounter in a city with just strawberries, senior citizens and kids with gang tattoos. he understood. he made me laugh. i called him ‘the world’s best dad’, because i know he’s going to be (in just a few months!!!). and then….i felt even better.

inspired by the strange coincidence over the illumination of my day by 2 vinces, i decided to find out the meaning of the name vince. i came to find that vince means CONQUERING…ummmm ok… i thought to myself and disregarded the fact. because in my world, vince would mean thoughtful or friendly or encouraging or just plain the kind of guy you’d like to know.

so thanks vince and vince. im glad to know you…both.
